Reprinted from HMV. Following the "Bruckner, Mahler, Wagner Edition," this is the second box set collecting recordings by Rögner. This set features orchestral works, showcasing Rögner's unique expression through a diverse repertoire, from the quintessential German music of Wagner and Richard Strauss to French music by Ravel and Dukas, which was highly regarded for an East German conductor, and even beautiful performances of Tchaikovsky. The recordings were made between 1974 and 1985, mostly during his time as principal conductor of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, but the Oboe Concertos by Haydn & Strauss and two works by Reger were recorded in the 1960s, and the inclusion of operetta highlights is also noteworthy. All of the performances are worth listening to, but the Wagner pieces with their rich sound are amazing, and the intensely grand "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," which the popular critic Koh Yoshino Uno praised as "just like Knappertsbusch," is particularly noteworthy.
