I believe the white inner part of the cold sake server is for holding ice to chill the sake, but I'm not certain. The white inner part is attached and cannot be removed. The bottom has a rough texture. The two sake cups are not identical in shape, with slight differences. I purchased and kept them because of their very unique and unusual shape. They could also be used as a lovely interior decoration by placing flowers in the center!
