This is a Sahari Tsuzure (woven) fukuro obi (formal obi). Sahari Tsuzure is a woven fabric known as the "jewel of obi," boasting a remarkably beautiful luster. Inspired by diamonds, it is designed to catch the light and create an infinite sparkle that changes with the angle of illumination. It employs a special technique called diamond cut, which involves three-dimensionally weaving the weft threads, unlike ordinary woven fabrics. By angling and combining red, blue, and yellow (the three primary colors), the obi displays a natural brilliance in bright places, and a fantastically changing array of colors and shine depending on the viewer's angle in dim light. This is a wonderful obi, synonymous with high-end fukuro obi, having been created in collaboration with Itchiku Kubota's Tsujigahana and even presented to the late Princess Diana. This particular obi features a work of art with shimmering colors reminiscent of the aurora borealis. The expression of light and shadow creates a three-dimensional appearance in the patterns, making it a unique Sahari Tsuzure obi.
