AUTOart 1/18 TOYOTA GT-ONE TS020 LEMANS 1998 #29 The TOYOTA GT-ONE TS020 is a prototype racing car developed by Toyota in 1998 to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The development team was TTE (Toyota Team Europe), which utilized its experience from the Group C era, focusing on aerodynamic performance and weight reduction in its design. The TS020 was equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine, producing a maximum output of 600 horsepower. In the 1998 Le Mans, three cars participated, and car #29 was driven by Satoru Nakajima, Allan McNish, and Toru Ukawa. Although the TS020 showed speed in the qualifying rounds, it was plagued by accidents such as transmission trouble and crashes during the race, and did not achieve a high finish. In 1999, an improved GT-ONE also participated and fought well, but ultimately finished in second place overall. As a result, the GT-ONE did not achieve Toyota's first Le Mans victory, and Toyota temporarily withdrew from the race. However, the GT-ONE is still spoken of today as a symbol of Toyota's challenge and technological prowess.
