Asahi Optical Pentax Super-Takumar 50mm F1.4 Early 8-Element Model M42 screw mount. Achieving 50mm f/1.4 in this generation was technically challenging, and all manufacturers' lenses have more pronounced characteristics. This Super-Takumar, in particular, can produce a fantastical image, with unexpected light spilling into the background. The abundant flare is a hallmark, and shooting into the sunset creates an all-encompassing world. The bokeh is somewhat bubble-like, with emphasized outlines. This is a highly recommended lens for those new to vintage lenses. The 8-element model, as shown in the disassembled image, has the 4th element made of three cemented elements, resulting in 6 groups and 8 elements. The coating is yellowish, but this model uniquely maintains its transparency without yellowing. Sample images using this lens are provided. The characteristic behavior under backlight is evident, with numerous ghosts and soft flare across the entire image. As you progress through the sample images, you'll see sharper shots, demonstrating the lens's capabilities beyond just its flamboyant effects. The smooth bokeh and sharp focus are also appealing, making it easy to handle. Regarding condition, the 8-element model's rear element protrudes, making it prone to scratches. Although difficult to see in the photos, there are some scratches, and some coating damage. However, it doesn't appear cloudy, and the image quality is good, as shown in the test shots.
