This is a four-hole coffee dripper from the German company Melitta, model 102. (Melitta refers to drippers as filters.) In 1908, Melitta Bentz invented the world's first paper drip system (filter) and established the M. Bentz company with her husband. It is said that she came up with the idea of a filter because she was dissatisfied with coffee grounds getting into the cup when brewing coffee by boiling it in a pot. Based on the number of holes and the lettering (Melitta's font), it is estimated to be from 1936 or later, probably the 1940s. Ceramic filters were first produced in 1919, with four or eight-hole designs from 1934 to 1938, followed by four-hole designs, then three-hole designs around 1954, and finally, one-hole filters. While the materials changed from brass to aluminum and ceramic, and the shape of the holes and the grooves inside varied, the basic form has remained almost unchanged to this day. Old Melitta filters are collector's items even in Germany. The lettering is dark green. Size: Mouth diameter approx. 12.4cm (inner diameter 11.5cm), bottom extraction part φ5.5cm, part that sits on the cup φ10cm, height 10.5cm, 562g As it is old, there are small scratches, scuffs, discoloration, and signs of use. There are irregularities and streaks on the inside from the manufacturing process. There are small black spots (more like brown). There are also small irregularities near the "M" of the Melitta logo from the manufacturing process. When the dripper is placed on a desk and shaken by hand, it wobbles slightly, but it is stable when used on a cup or pot. We try our best to make the colors in the photos as close to the actual product as possible, but there may be slight differences depending on the device you are using. The shooting props (cans and cups) are not included. ◉ Please read the profile section as well. ◉ Please refrain from price negotiations. ◉ We offer a combined shipping discount for multiple purchases!
