Hand-washed with dog-specific detergent and sprayed with dog-specific disinfectant, then air-dried for two days. (I believe there are no hygiene issues, but this is just my personal assessment.) There is some dirt, but no cracks. It can be used without any problems. I used it to protect my dog's trachea, but I am selling it because my dog has grown and I need a different size. It can still be used. Recommended for those who want to try it out, but please refrain from purchasing if you are concerned about the dirt.
