This is a new attempt at a "Comprehensive History of Japan," offering a bird's-eye view of the human dramas of heroes like Prince Nagaya, Taira no Masakado, Sen no Rikyu, Sakamoto Ryoma, and Saigo Takamori, who were defeated at the peak of their times, through short stories.
