Photographer Jonathan Levite was inspired by natural history, mythology, and a primal view of nature as a living and enchanting place, and went in search of endangered and haunted places, that is, natural landscapes still enlivened by untouched habitats and their corresponding wildlife. The result is a series of images that evoke elements of animistic art and the fossilized elements of classical poetry of oral tradition, such as geese flying around a nest at Cape St. Mary's, a humpback whale in the rain near Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy estuary, and a flock of wading birds inhabiting a cypress swamp near Chokoloskee, Florida, particularly expressing synesthesia, transmogrification, onomatopoeia, and a non-linear sense of time.
