Kutani Ware Ochoko (Sake Cups) Set of 5 A set of Japanese-patterned ochoko (sake cups). These were stored for a long time at my parents' house, and although I don't know the details, they appear unused and are in overall beautiful condition. They come in a wooden box, but the lid is missing. It seems that originally there was a set of 6, but one is missing, making it a set of 5. The shapes of the mouth of the cups are round, hexagonal, and triangular. The sizes and patterns are all different, ranging from Japanese patterns and period paintings to those with oriental atmospheres featuring gold colors. Some have different designs on the front and back, and I have included multiple photos of each, showing different orientations. They feature phoenixes, Chinese motifs, seaside pines and houses, pine and floral patterns, using red, vermilion, green, and gold, making them all gorgeous and elegant. Some have very slight scratches on the gold rims of the mouth (photos 7 and 16). These are originally very thin gold lines, and it is unclear whether they are from the original manufacturing or from storage and aging, but they are not severe peeling. Overall, they have little sign of use and are beautiful. They would be perfect as ochoko for Japanese sake, or as small bowls for dishes, such as pickles, pickled plums, or sauces, to be placed on a tray or a Japanese-style flat plate. They are suitable for everyday use, as well as for party seasons, year-end and New Year's holidays, and for arranging celebratory meals. Although they are old items, there are no noticeable stains, cracks, chips, or fissures. They have a luster and are in good overall condition. Please check the condition in the photos.
