This is a Nagoya obi (nine-inch width) by Sekimoto Chinen of the Chinen Bingata Workshop, the 6th generation of the Chinen family, one of the three major families of Ryukyu Bingata. The three major families of Ryukyu Bingata are the Chinen family, the Shirokuma family, and the Takushi family. Bingata is a traditional dyeing technique that has been passed down since the Ryukyu Kingdom era. The artisans have protected their craftsmanship through a process where an artist draws the design, a carver carves the stencil, and then a dyer, mainly from the "three major Bingata families," completes the work. Sekimoto Chinen rarely takes on apprentices, so it is said that his Bingata production is less than that of the Shiroma and Tamanaha families. This is a wonderful piece with hand-dyed colors on a shimmering gold-threaded ground, featuring Ryukyu Bingata mandarin ducks and floral patterns. The artist's signature is on the reverse side of the tare (the part that hangs down). It would look great paired with casual kimonos such as komon (small patterned kimonos), tsumugi (pongee), Omeshi (silk crepe), plain color kimonos without crests, and cotton kimonos. Also, being Ryukyu Bingata, it would also suit Oshima Tsumugi, Kumejima Tsumugi, and Hanaori kimonos. We hope that those looking for authentic Bingata will enjoy this piece. ● Japanese Color: Close to light yellow-green (usuki) ● Size: Length: Approximately 394cm Width: Approximately 30.5cm Please note that there may be slight variations due to amateur measurements. ● Material: Pure silk With core stitching ● Condition: Unworn, so it is beautiful and in very good condition. It is a beautiful item, but please understand that it is a personal storage item before purchasing. ● Other Notes: There may be differences in the colors seen depending on your monitor, so please be careful if you are pursuing subtle colors. 【 #RyukyuBingata 】 Ryukyu Bingata is a dyed fabric made in Okinawa. It is a general term for Okinawan dyed fabrics, which are said to have originated as early as the 13th century, and have been nurtured by unique dyeing techniques. It is the only dyed product in Okinawa, and is characterized by vivid colors, bold color schemes, and designs that are typical of the southern islands. It was designated as a traditional craft product by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1984 under the name "Ryukyu Bingata." We also have many other kimonos, obi, Japanese accessories, antiques, and brand artists on display♪ Please take a look here #cafe kimono
