Silk is excellent at absorbing and releasing moisture, quick-drying, and retaining heat, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It is also said to have skin-beautifying and UV-cut effects. Genuine silk kimonos are used. To determine if it is genuine silk, I select based on the feel of the fabric, the fact that it is entirely hand-sewn, and a burn test. I consider fading and discoloration to be part of the charm of vintage kimonos.
