While these coasters are simple and unadorned, we've used a special treatment to minimize the fuzziness of the leather's edges (cut surfaces) and flesh side (back). The third photo shows the flesh side (back). The leather used is "Vacchetta" leather from Tochigi Leather. This leather is characterized by its varied grain patterns and lustrous sheen. Although it's originally a soft leather, the flesh side treatment gives it a crisp texture. Compared to cork or paper coasters, you'll find these to be more substantial.
