You can play back recordings. The image quality doesn't seem to have degraded much. Sometimes it doesn't recognize when a tape is inserted, but restarting the power usually fixes it. A cleaning tape and a blank tape are included, one of each. Everything in the photos is included. I believe it's a complete set.
