Imari ware, a set of four small, dyed plates from the Meiji to Taisho eras. They feature auspicious chrysanthemum, bird, and butterfly patterns. The brownish-red rim of the plates is called "kuchibeni" (lipstick) and is made by applying iron glaze. This serves two purposes: to tighten the overall design of the vessel and the painted design, and to prevent the glaze from peeling off during firing. Due to their age, there may be scratches, color unevenness, and adhering materials from the time of pottery making (see image 5). I purchased these from an antique shop and have never used them. I would appreciate it if those who understand antique items and home storage would consider purchasing them.
