I made a tote bag using an old obi (sash). I was a little concerned about the dirt, so I washed it with delicate detergent and ironed it. The main body of the outer fabric uses a stiff interfacing. The side gusset uses a soft interfacing. The upper part of the gusset on the back side is the black lining of the obi. The front surface is sewn with kimono fabric, and the back is a double open pocket with another piece of kimono fabric added. Both are the "face" of the bag. The lining is blue cotton fabric with a navy floral pattern. It has double pockets. In addition, there is a hidden pocket between the main body and the handle. This is very convenient for taking out commuter passes and keychains. A 4-file folder fits in it. It's a remake of obi fabric, so it's suitable for Japanese clothing, but it's a box type with gussets at the top and bottom, so I think it's easy to use as a sub-bag for work.
