Please note that the controller and adapter rings are sold separately. The controller is shared with the Macro Twin Flash STF-22, so if you have one, you can use it by simply swapping the cable. It is generally clean, but there is a part of the cable that has turned white. If you are concerned, you can wipe it with an alcohol-based cleaner to restore the black color.
