I upcycled a kimono into a hanten (a type of Japanese padded coat). The lining is cotton-padded quilting, making it very warm. The collar overlaps like a traditional kimono, preserving the feel of Japanese clothing. I made this with a man in mind, but it's suitable for women too. If hand washing, wash quickly by pressing, use fabric softener, lightly spin dry, hang to dry in the shade, and use a pressing cloth when ironing. I made this by deconstructing a used kimono I bought from a vintage clothing store. The lining is polyester taffeta quilt. The overlapping front closure prevents warmth from escaping.
