I'm selling a treasured violin as part of a decluttering effort. This is a very old violin, but it's still a fully functional instrument. You can enjoy its rich, unique sound, which differs from modern violins. The label inside is missing, but the initials "AG" are clearly engraved near the base of the neck on the back. I believe these are the maker's initials. When I researched it before, I found several makers with the initials A.G. Among them, the violin dictionary mentioned that August Guth of Germany and Johann Anton Gedler used the initials AG as a brand, so I'm speculating that it might be one of them. The peg holes on the head have been filled in and redrilled, so it's undoubtedly quite old. As you can see in the photos, there are several vertical repair lines on the top plate, but they are firmly attached and don't budge when pressed. Fortunately, there are no signs of cracks repaired near the sound post. The strings are Pirastro Tonica, but it would be best to replace them. The tiger-stripe figuring on the back and sides is beautiful. I believe it's a delicate instrument, and I hope to pass it on to someone who will cherish it. I will ship it in a hard violin case, carefully packed. This case is old and is for transportation purposes only.
