A major characteristic of Koishiwara-yaki is the patterns created by using blades or brushes in a regular manner while rotating the pottery on a potter's wheel. Techniques called "Tobikanna" (flying plane) and "Hakeme" (brush marks) create patterns that are orderly yet warm. Koishiwara-yaki is mainly used for everyday household goods. Although it is ceramic, it has the thinness and lightness of porcelain. Its beautiful shape and flavor, which give a sense of elegance within a warm and rustic texture, are its charm.
