This is an unused Ogatsu inkstone, but it has been tuned by Minista (reshaping the ink well and ink surface to improve the inkstone's performance). The back of the inkstone is engraved with "Miyagi Prefecture Ogatsu-san Gensho-seki, Moriyuki." This inkstone was made by Moriyuki Endo. The engraving indicates Ogatsu stone, but it is from the Namihata area of Ogatsu. The included pamphlet is from the time when it was Monou-gun, Ogatsu-cho, Miyagi Prefecture, not the current Ishinomaki City, Ogatsu-cho, Miyagi Prefecture. It's an inkstone from over 20 years ago, probably from the 1990s. The stone and inkstone are similar to those of Hiroyuki Endo, who is also selling other items. Hiroyuki is Moriyuki's son. The Ogatsu inkstone pamphlet is from before the earthquake. It mentions Moriyuki Endo's inkstone exhibition and direct sales store, and Hiroyuki's Endo Suzuri Hall. Looking at the map on the pamphlet, it seems that the current Endo Suzuri Hall was the inkstone exhibition and direct sales store. It's a thin and lightweight inkstone for its size. Although it's thin, the ink well is wide, so you can use a generous amount of ink. The manufacturing techniques and the way of thinking about inkstone making are very similar to Hiroyuki's. I assume Hiroyuki inherited them, and I think, "I see." If you'd like, I can explain in detail which aspects are similar using the actual inkstone. The ink grinds and colors very well, and the ink spreads nicely. It grinds ink comfortably. It can be used for both dark and light ink, and you can write beautiful lines. It's a good inkstone for both oil soot ink and pine soot ink. It's suitable for kana (up to full-size paper), kanji (up to half-size paper), and sumi-e (ink wash painting).
