The black dot paste, a characteristic of this brooch, was only produced from the 1700s to the 1850s. During this era, black dots were drawn on the paste to give it a deep, diamond-like brilliance. It appears that the original buckle was converted into a brooch. There is some looseness in the pin, but it won't come off if you secure it firmly. Although it is old, there is no significant discoloration. It is a valuable item from the Georgian era, in a size that is difficult to find. The old glass has a lovely, moist feel.
