Sanzan Kimura (born 1927, died 1988) was a Japanese calligrapher known as the founder of modern calligraphy poetry. His works were avant-garde, going beyond the conventional framework of calligraphy, and he is highly regarded as a calligrapher with a rebellious spirit. The Museum of Modern Art, Gunma, houses a large collection of Sanzan Kimura's works, showcasing the breadth and depth of his creative activities. His representative works include "Iroha Mandala," "Yoka 1," "Requiem (I)," "The Flute of the Heart that Spits Thread," and "Two Worlds." Furthermore, Yasuki Fukushima, a poet who was influenced by his ideas and works, inherited his spirit after Kimura's death and published the book "Burai no Haka" (The Tomb of the Rogue). This book is highly regarded as a volume that conveys Kimura's rebellious spirit and passion for art. Sanzan Kimura's activities brought a new wind to the calligraphy world and expanded the possibilities of modern calligraphy. His works and ideas continue to influence many people even today.
