His works include many landscape paintings, which are highly regarded, but he also had a reputation as a forger. In the past, there was even a public symposium held to discuss whether "Xi'an Tu," a work by the Chinese painter Dong Yuan, was a forgery by Zhang Daqian. Furthermore, "Jiaou Tu," which was sold at a Hong Kong auction, was highly popular, fetching approximately 2 billion yen. He studied Chinese painting from a young age and, at the age of 19 in 1917, he studied abroad in Kyoto, Japan, where he studied art and dyeing at Kyoto Art and Design Professional School for three years. From 1940, he spent about two and a half years copying murals at the Mogao Grottoes, a giant Buddhist ruin in Dunhuang, and acquired an ancient aesthetic sense. At that time, it seems he created the works by estimating the colors of the deteriorated murals and the parts that had peeled off. In 1948, he moved to Hong Kong, and then lived overseas for over 20 years, moving between Brazil, Argentina, and the United States, incorporating Western techniques of the time into his own works. He passed away in 1983 at the age of 84 due to heart disease. For the purpose of organizing my collection, I will sell it to those who are interested.
