Founder Renold O. Schilke was a trumpet player in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the WGN Broadcasting Orchestra. While his talent as a performer was outstanding, he also made mouthpieces and tuned instruments from his playing days. While active as a top player, he taught at Northwestern University, DePaul University, Roosevelt University, and others.
