"Toyooka, the City of Bags," originated from willow crafts that began in the Nara period. It flourished in the Edo period with the production of willow luggage. Since the Taisho era, it has become a bag production center based on its traditional techniques and distribution channels, with the challenge of new materials and the introduction of sewing machine technology. Bags made in Toyooka City can be called "Toyooka-made," "Made in Toyooka," or "Made in Japan." Among those Toyooka-made bags, products manufactured by companies that meet the standards set by the Hyogo Prefecture Bag Industry Association and pass the examination are certified as "Toyooka Kaban." High-quality, long-selling materials are used.
