Ken Kato Shino ware (Genkuro Kiln) Peach Shino With a wooden box Diameter: Approximately 6.5cm Height: Approximately 5.5cm This is from my family's collection of guinomi (sake cups). It has never been used and has been stored as is. The guinomi is clean with no scratches or chips. The wooden box may have some scratches (please check the photos). Thank you. ★Reference Ken Kato Born in 1947 in a kiln in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. Graduated from the Ceramics Department of Tajimi Technical High School in 1967. Studied under Mr. Kunio Uchida in Kyoto in 1971. Built a kiln in Hida, Toki City in 1973, and began researching and creating Shino and Oribe ware. Held solo exhibitions at department stores throughout Japan from 1977. Built an anagama kiln (wood-fired kiln) in 1983. Produces a wide variety of tea ceremony utensils and tableware, including Shino ware tea bowls, teacups, guinomi, mizusashi (water jars), and kogo (incense containers). Especially values the "Peach Shino" glaze, which is a pale peach color, and the texture of Shino ware, characterized by fine holes on the surface. Use of anagama kiln: Creates works using a full-fledged anagama kiln, and the scenery and modeling unique to wood-fired kilns are different for each piece, earning high praise.
