The kanji character "蓮" (lotus) is used. The lotus flower and water lily are referred to as "Renge" (lotus flower), which was introduced with Buddhism and has been used since ancient times. The lotus flower, or Renge, is often praised as a symbol of purity and holiness. There is a well-known Chinese idiom, "The lotus rises from the mud, yet remains unstained by it," which is familiar to Japanese people.
