Karatsu-yaki Pottery Artist Munihiko Maruta's "Karatsu-yaki Plain Karatsu Yunomi" Teacup Set (Set of 5) Purchased at the Hankyu Department Store Art Gallery in Osaka. He is one of the leading Karatsu-yaki artists. They look great whether used for serving food or as large yunomi teacups. The refined wheel-throwing and the glaze of the plain Karatsu are wonderful. A piece that is typical of Mr. Maruta! Because they were fired in an anagama kiln, the glaze is very elegant. One teacup has a small, approximately 2mm spot on the inside where the glaze has chipped and the clay is visible (see photo), but it is not a cause for concern. ★Please refrain from purchasing if you are overly sensitive.
