[Otsu Castle] Otsu Castle was built around 1586 in the Hamamatsu area of Otsu City, at the order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, following the demolition of Sakamoto Castle, which was associated with Akechi Mitsuhide. During the Battle of Sekigahara, Kyogoku Takatsugu, who belonged to the Eastern Army, held the castle, holding up the Western Army's Mōri Motoyasu and Tachibana Muneshige, which is known as the "Battle of Otsu Castle."
