Born in 1908, he became a disciple of the Kakiemon kiln. Under the 13th Kakiemon, he was the head painter at the Kakiemon kiln, producing numerous masterpieces. He was permitted to build the Korin-an kiln right next to the Kakiemon kiln, and was selected as a Contemporary Master Craftsman of Japan. He received the Order of the Rising Sun in 1984.
