This was given to me. It has a string attached to the top, but it's ceramic and heavy, so I recommend using it directly on a surface. You could put cooking utensils, writing instruments, or artificial flowers in it. Opening: 3 cm vertically 10 cm horizontally I think it would suit any space, whether Japanese or Western.
