A record of Karajan's early recordings. It features his specialties, the Pathétique and The Moldau. The orchestra is the Berlin Philharmonic under Furtwängler. The recordings were made in 1939 for the Pathétique and 1941 for The Moldau, under the Nazi regime, just before and during World War II. Naturally, the sound quality is poor, but this can be said to be a recording more for listening to a documentary than for enjoying the music. The performance style of both pieces seems to be much the same as his later recordings. The spine of the obi (sleeve) is faded, but the liner notes are clean, and the CD itself is also clean.
