Playboy Eyes, December 1982 (Showa 57). Playboy Eyes was a monthly gravure magazine spun off from Weekly Playboy, with its first issue released in '82. However, perhaps it was ahead of its time, as it ceased publication after only about a year. Gravure books that became big sellers began to appear from the late 70s, and it could be said that it responded to that trend, but it was 10 years too early. It excelled in subject selection and the quality of its shots, and it remains a popular series in the used market today. The samples are Yoshimi Fujita, Akari Hamada, Harumi Nakajima, Waka Satomi, and Yuri Tono. Fujita, featured in the opening, was 21 years old at the time. She was a popular model for a time, appearing as an Eleven Girl on the show "11PM" and in commercials. There are no collections like photo books, and she can only be seen in magazine gravure, but even "clippings," which are usually treated as being worth next to nothing, fetch a good price at used bookstores if they feature Fujita. It's not at the level of being a "phantom...", but the rarity has given it value due to her short-lived career. She was a talent who could have been somewhat successful if things had gone smoothly.
