This item was passed down to me by my aunt, who was a teacher of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony. Although the details are unknown, it seems my aunt purchased this to use in place of a kogo (incense container). It is a small, ceramic lidded container with a classical Greek design on the lid. The lid and body fit together snugly, and the design allows it to be used as a kogo, a small container for accessories, or as interior decor.
