A small monkey carving purchased at an antique market. The one-yen coin in the image is for size comparison. It is not included with the item. It's a really tiny carving. It has a cute appearance. According to the shop owner, it was sold as a souvenir in Nikko from the late Edo period to the Meiji era. The material is unknown, either jade or bone, but I think it looks like jade, although it's difficult to say for sure. The shop owner said it was used with a string around its neck as a keychain or netsuke. Indeed, there are marks on the neck, so I think it was used in that way. Please refrain from price negotiations.
