This is a traditional "nenneko" (baby carrier/swaddling blanket). It's made of Oshima Tsumugi silk with cotton padding and is hand-stitched. It ties with a string. It's much warmer than modern versions. The velvet collar was removed, cleaned, and reattached. Because it's long, it covers the waist when worn, so adults are also warm. Babies would fall asleep quickly when swaddled in this.
