This is a wooden, round confectionary bowl, also known as a "kashibachi" or "kashiki." It has been carefully stored at my parents' home. It seems to be used in Japanese-style rooms or tea rooms to hold Japanese sweets and snacks. The item in the image has a wooden, subdued color and features a design with the kanji for "wa" (harmony/Japanese) and "raku" (comfort/enjoyment) on the lid.
