He is known for his works that pursue the simple and profound beauty of "beauty of use," created through "oxidation firing" and "kiln transformation" without using any glaze. Main Activities and Works: Mr. Katayama is based in Saihaku-gun, Tottori Prefecture, and has many fans, holding solo exhibitions throughout the country. Characteristics of the Works: Although not flashy, many of his works gain depth of flavor the more they are used, and are cherished as vessels that are "cultivated" by enthusiasts. Representative Works: Mizusashi (water jar): "Mimi-tsuki Mizusashi" (water jar with ears), with a wooden box, cloth, and a bookmark, are traded at auctions. Tea utensils: He also creates detailed works such as "Ushi no Gogo" (cow incense container). These items were found during the cleaning of my parents' house. I have never seen my parents use them, but there are scratches, mainly in photos 3 and 4, and I am unsure if they are the works of the artist.
