I painted this using watercolors, inspired by the "iga-mochi" (hedgehog rice cakes) seen at festivals in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Painted with watercolors on Mermaid paper. From the name "Mermaid paper," I imagined mermaids, and created original characters, Lala the mermaid and Rele the sea slug, who got lost in the Seto Inland Sea and encountered local specialties and scenery. Each painting is unique and one-of-a-kind. "Iga-mochi" is the taste of the festival! A chewy treat given to them by humans. Rele and Lala don't know about festivals yet, but I wonder if they'll be able to go someday.
