Jean Roque Lartigue, a boy who loves inventions, falls in love at first sight with a girl named Nadia. Jean follows her and tries to befriend her at the Eiffel Tower observation deck, but there, the Grandis gang appears, aiming for Nadia's jewel, the Blue Water. They try to go to Africa, which is believed to be Nadia's birthplace, but break down and drift. Jean and Nadia are rescued by the versatile submarine Nautilus, commanded by the mysterious Captain Nemo. The Nautilus is occupied by the secret organization Neo-Atlantis, led by Gargoyle, and the Grandis gang has also drifted ashore.
