It consists of seven planets (Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune), excluding "Earth," and is written from an astrological perspective rather than an astronomical one. The melody of the fourth movement, "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity," is particularly famous and is also known as a British patriotic song and a hymn of the Church of England. This work is a representative orchestral piece by Holst.
