This is a traditional Chinese "Duanxi inkstone" (Tankei-ken) carved with a dragon. Features: It is one of the Four Great Famous Inkstones of China and is also called the "King of Inkstones." Carving: Intricate dragon carvings are applied around the part of the inkstone where ink is ground. Use: It is a tool for grinding ink in calligraphy and is also highly regarded as a work of art. My grandmother was a calligrapher and purchased this in China a long time ago. It is new and unused, and comes with its outer box. However, as it has been stored at home, there are minor scuffs, scratches, and stains. The lid of the special wooden box is also not finely finished as it is made in China.
