This is Emperor Meiji (listed as "Emperor of Japan") from the 1902 tobacco cards from the British company Ogden, specifically from Guinea Gold Cigarettes and Guinea Gold New Series 1. Guinea Gold Cigarettes was one of Ogden's flagship products, and from the late 19th to early 20th century, they also included beautiful tobacco cards with a glossy black border. The subjects depicted on the cards were extremely diverse, including prominent figures and sports scenes from Britain and around the world at the time, as well as items related to the Second Boer War. Many cards also featured depictions of the Orient (Japan, China, Korea, etc.), which was an unknown realm to Westerners of that era.
