This is a set of 12 Eto (Chinese zodiac) clay bells from Ise Jingu Shrine. The set includes only the clay bells, no box. They were displayed, and as shown in the last image, there is some light soiling. Bells have long been used in Shinto rituals and other ceremonies as a tool to ward off evil. These bells are made with pure clay from the upper reaches of the Isuzu River and are carefully crafted based on the Eto of the year. With their simple tones, they are meant to convey wishes for peace and to pray for everyone's good fortune.
