I'm not entirely sure, but I believe this is a cup and saucer set made for export from Japan during the period when it was under American occupation, around 1947-1952 (Showa 22-27). It seems that during those five years, export goods were required to be marked with "Occupied Japan." Upon closer inspection, both the cup and saucer feature a repeating pattern of an old man's face, known as "Hyakuro" (百老). Back then, many pieces in this series had the backstamp "made in occupied japan." However, the item for sale is marked with "Japan," so it's unclear.
