I am selling a set of three vintage Chinese special stamps, "People's Commune: Five Industries Flourishing." Symbol: T.39 Issue Date: August 10, 1979 Issuing Authority: Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China Before the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the emphasis in China's rural areas was on "food production first," which resulted in the neglect of forestry, animal husbandry, and fisheries, leading to the destruction of the natural environment and stagnation of agriculture. To develop agriculture, diversified and comprehensive management according to local conditions was needed. Therefore, the former Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China issued these special stamps to promote this policy. The design of Stamp 1 (top) is titled "Water Village, Duck Herding (Animal Husbandry)." The stamp design depicts a flock of plump white ducks happily depicted against the backdrop of a small boat, several tall green bamboo stalks, and the silhouette of green mountains reflected vividly on the mirror-like surface of the still water. The design of Stamp 2 (middle) is titled "Mechanical Harvesting (Agriculture)." The scene depicts a high-voltage power transmission tower towering in a golden field, swallows flying happily, and a red combine harvester working busily. The design of Stamp 3 (bottom) is titled "Weaving (Side Occupations)." The stamp design depicts the production of straw hats, symbolizing the level of side occupation production in the People's Commune through the scene of rural women working hard on weaving at home.
