The Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigates of the U.S. Navy were born out of a need to secure a large number of escort ships to replace aging vessels, and were designed as low-cost, mass-produced frigates emphasizing economic efficiency. Due to their ease of use, they are operated not only by the U.S. Navy but also by various other countries. Armaments include one twin launcher for Harpoon SSM/Standard MRSAM, one 76mm single gun, one 20mm CIWS, four 12.7mm single machine guns, and two 324mm triple torpedo launchers.
