This is an antique Myanmar Bagan lacquerware plate, made in the early 1900s, purchased from a gallery overseas. Bagan has a long history, and it is said that the lacquerware techniques were introduced from northern Thailand around the 14th to 18th centuries. The base is made of bamboo strips, which are repeatedly coated with lacquer. Fine patterns are then carved with a blade, and various colored lacquers are poured into the carvings to complete the piece. As it is an old item, there are small areas where the paint has peeled off, but it has a calm color palette that new items do not possess. The size is 20 centimeters in diameter.
