Hidetira-nuri is said to have originated when the Fujiwara clan of Hiraizumi had artisans from Kyoto create it, and it has been passed down for over 800 years. This is a set of two lidded Hidetira-nuri bowls made of natural wood. They are unused and stored in a wooden box. These are large bowls with a considerable height. They are rare, high-grade crafts among Hidetira-nuri bowls. On one side, the bowls feature the representative Hidetira-nuri design of red clouds with diamond-shaped gold leaf. On the other side, a red pine tree pattern is painted. You can enjoy two different views on one bowl, the front and the back (Photos 3 and 4). They would be very well-received if used as soup bowls during auspicious occasions such as New Year's. They are also luxurious as lacquerware to display, and the luster of the lacquer is wonderful.
